Tony Haase
WAUPACA, WI (WSAU) — DNA evidence has linked a 51-year-old Weyauwega man to the killing of two people in March of 1992.
The Department of Justice announced Friday that Tony Haase is suspected of stabbing Timothy Mumbrue and Tanna Togstad in Waupaca County after a night of drinking.
Hasse made a court appearance later in the day where a judge ordered him held on a $2 million bond. He has until August 16th to find an attorney.
Officers say Haase was upset over the death of his father, which happened as the result of a snowmobile accident that also involved Togstad’s father.
Haase told investigators that his memory from the night of the murders is foggy because he had been drinking, but he has admitted that he did end up at Togstad’s house on the night that she and Mumbrue died from stab wounds.
Attorney General Josh Kaul released a statement thanking investigators for their efforts in the 30-year investigation. Anyone who believes they may have additional information about the incident is encouraged to contact the state Division of Criminal Investigation.
