ST. LOUIS, MO (WSAU) — A strong start from Eric Lauer wasn’t enough as the Milwaukee offense sputtered in a 3-1 loss on Friday.
The Brewers starter went six innings and allowed five hits and three earned runs while walking just two and striking out five. Relievers Brent Suter and Jason Alexander kept the Cardinal bats quiet, but the offense couldn’t catch up.
Victor Caratini led the way with three hits including a ground-ball single in the 7th inning to score Luis Urias. Five other Milwaukee batters recorded hits in the game including Urias who had a triple.
Willy Adames had a single, the only batter in the top four places in the lineup to record a hit. The bottom three in the lineup combined for five hits including Caratini and Urias.
All three St. Louis runs came off home runs.
Game two of the series is this evening with coverage starting at 5:40 on WSAU.
