SANTA CLARA, CA (WSAU) — Jordan Love tossed two touchdowns and three picks in a 28-21 loss to the 49ers on Friday.
Love’s day included a 33-yard touchdown strike to Danny Davis and an identical 33-yard scoring toss to Romeo Doubs. He was replaced at halftime by journeyman Danny Etling who connected with Amari Rodgers for a 22-yard touchdown in the 4th quarter.
Etling, a 4th-year pro out of LSU, is in his second stay with the Packers after Jordan Love was put on the COVID-19 reserve list in 2021. His career has also included stops with the Minnesota Vikings, Seattle Seahawks, and Atlanta Falcons. He also spent three weeks with the BC Lions of the CFL in 2021.
San Francisco’s Trey Lance, a second-year QB out of North Dakota State by way of Marshall, MN high, stole the show with a big 76-yard touchdown pass to Danny Grant.
Both teams rested most of their projected Week One starters. Lance played just two series before giving way to backups.
The Packers return home this week where they will be joined by the New Orleans for two days of joint practices before playing Preseason game number two against the Saints on Friday.
