WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Wausau School Board will hold a special meeting on Monday to begin the process of filling a vacancy in their ranks.
Eight people have applied for one seat. According to Clerk Cassie Peck, they are (in alphabetical order):
A. Brandon Jensen
B. Barbara Newton
C. Cory Sillars
D. Gillian Battino
E. Jo Ann Egelkrout
F. Lori Duranso
G. Michael Hughes
H. Thomas Brown
According to Monday’s agenda, the board will narrow the applicant pool down to four. Those finalists will then have in-person interviews with the board, and one will be voted into the seat for a term beginning September 6th and running through April 23rd, 2023.
The winning candidate will fill a seat vacated by Ka Lo earlier this summer, who unofficially resigned her seat by distributing a press release in late June. She did not send a formal resignation to the district, which prevented them from officially vacating the seat immediately. District officials later told WSAU news that the board then gave Lo a deadline of July 15th to file a formal resignation.

That deadline came and went with no action, prompting the district to use her media statement in its place to “comply with State Statute, School Board Policy, and to continue to keep the Wausau School District moving forward.”
Lo’s statement said she would be accepting another opportunity that would “take her out of the Wausau area,” and also accused the board of having indifferent attitudes and creating a toxic environment.
