The Wausau Board of Education will meet in a special session tonight to consider eight applicants who are interested in filling a vacancy on the board.
Leaders will go over the applications and eliminate four of the individuals. The four that make the cut will then have in-person interviews with the board, who will then vote one of them into the seat.
The winning candidate will be seated on September 6th for a term that runs through next April, meaning they will have to run for re-election in the spring if they want to remain in the seat.
Clerk Cassie Peck confirmed to WSAU News last week that the board received interest from the following individuals for the seat, listed in alphabetical order:
A. Brandon Jensen
B. Barbara Newton
C. Cory Sillars
D. Gillian Battino
E. Jo Ann Egelkrout
F. Lori Duranso
G. Michael Hughes
H. Thomas Brown
The eight candidates will be considered as part of a special meeting Monday evening which begins at 6:30 or immediately following the previous meeting.
Of course, this is the seat that was unofficially vacated by Ka Lo this summer when she announced that she had been given an opportunity that would “take her out of the Wausau area.” Though Lo never formally submitted a letter of resignation to the district.
District leaders waited several weeks to see if she would, but when she didn’t they decided to file her media statement as her formal resignation so they could vacate the seat and begin the process of filling it.
