We continue our look back at the music of 50 years ago…..
There is something to be said for a band that knows its strengths and doesn’t vary too far away from them.
If you like straight-ahead meat & potatoes rock & roll and boogie….Cactus fits the bill.
The 1972 Lp “Ot & Sweaty” is the band’s fourth but the first with many new members. The founding members of Carmine Appice on drums and Tim Bogert on bass remain but are joined on this record by guitarist Werner Fritzschings, keyboardist Duane Hitchings and raspy lead vocalist Peter French.
One side of the LP is recorded live at a festival in Puerto Rico and shows the band cooking on cuts like “Bad Mother Boogie”, “Our Little Rock & Roll Thing” and “Swim”. Side 2 is some studio stuff including a ballad called “Bringing Me Down”…but its the uptempo rockers that you want here like “Bedroom Mazurka” and “Telling You” and “Bad Stuff”
The band wasn’t going to be around much longer so boogie while you can!
