MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) — Police in Marshfield are warning local furniture stores to be on the lookout for a couple who ripped off Mall Furniture for more than $28,000 this week.
Officers say a man and woman bought $15,000 worth of furniture on Tuesday, then hauled it away in a white Penske rental truck. The couple returned on Wednesday to purchase an additional $13,200 worth of items and again hauled them away in the truck.
During both visits, the man paid for the items with a credit card that was initially declined. He gave the cashier a PIN that forces the transactions to go through. The store owner later discovered that the transactions were declined a second time.
The man was identified as Timothy Litt, and according to police he attempted a similar scheme at another area furniture store but the cashier wouldn’t allow him to try the card a second time after the initial attempt was declined. He did provide a photo ID at that store with the name Timothy Litt.
The woman was verbally identified as Antoinette Williams. The couple may be connected to similar scams in other areas and states, often with the use of a Penske rental truck.
Officers say the couple has likely left the area. Anyone with information on them should call Marshfield Police Detective Matt Berres at 715-305-6493.
