RIB MOUNTAIN, WI (WSAU) — Residents in Rib Mountain are once again getting water from Well #1 after the Town’s Sanitary District installed a resin filtration system to help remove PFAS.
Officials reportedly installed the new filter last week, which has gotten levels from that well down to nearly non-detectable. That allows them to bring the well back online after it was shut down several months ago.
The town’s other wells are still showing some elevated levels of PFAS, meaning customers should remain aware of the situation and take precautions such as buying bottled water or investing in home filtration methods if they feel it’s necessary.
It should be noted that the water is not in violation of any current standards. As was the case last December when they announced the well was taken offline.

Rib Mountain announced the contamination was discovered as they were conducting testing for the design of a new drinking water treatment plant, which the District hopes will bring a long-term solution for removing the chemicals.
Following their announcement, several other Wausau-area water systems announced that they too had discovered PFAS in at least some of their water sources. That includes Wausau, which showed elevated levels in all six of its wells.
