WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Junior hockey is here to stay for another five years in Wausau.
The Wausau Cyclones and Marathon County announced a five-year lease extension for the team through the 2026-’27 season, keeping them at the Marathon Park Ice Arena.
“The Wausau Cyclones call Marathon Park Ice Arena our home and we are thrilled with this new agreement, which solidifies the Cyclones in the greater Central Wisconsin community. We look forward to continuing to build on our success and create partnerships that enhance our goals of being a regional asset for the development of hockey skills, personal growth that enhances players and coaches of all ages and providing entertainment and service to the community we know and love. We’d also like to thank Director of Parks, Recreation and Forestry Jamie Polley for her work in helping to make this agreement a reality,” stated Cyclones Hockey Ownership in a statement on Thursday.
The Cyclones open the new season on September 16th with a six-game road trip. Their home opener is October 14th against the St. Louis Junior Blues.
The Cyclones play in the third-division NA3HL, a league that serves as a development pipeline for USA Hockey. Cyclones players are being groomed for college hockey at both the NCAA and American Collegiate Hockey Association, an independent circuit of club programs that operate outside of the NCAA structure.
