MADISON, WI (WSAU) Badger transfer Nakia Watson scored two touchdowns as Washington State upset Wisconsin, 17-14.
Watson put Washington State on top for good with a 31-yard catch and run in the third quarter.
The Badgers were hampered by 11 penalties, two missed field goals, and a late interception from quarterback Graham Mertz.
Wisconsin, trailing by 3 in the fourth quarter, got inside the 10 year line. Mertz was intercepted. Washington State fumbled while returning the errant pass, which the Badgers recovered. An illegal block on the same play moved the ball back to the 35. Wisconsin was pushed back and did not threaten. Washington State picked up two first downs on their next possession to run out the clock.
The game was a homecoming for Washington State coach Jake Dickert, who grew up in Wisconsin and attended UW-Stevens Point.
The Badgers dominated the Cougars in time-of-possession and total yardage but did not score in the second half.
Wisconsin, 1-1, will host New Mexico State next Saturday.
Washinton State, 2-0, returns home to play Colorado.
