We continue our look back at the music of 50 years ago…..
It was their second LP released in 1972 and Manfred Mann’s Earth Band’s “Glorified Magnified” was an interesting mixture of styles.
Short hooky songs for the most part built on Mick Rogers guitar riffs and Mann’s organ and synth fills. They also added a couple of ballads just to change it up a bit. And they give us a pretty straight forward Dylan cover of ‘It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue”.
It’s certainly more proggy than its predecessors but not where they want to be yet.
My faves on the record include “Look Around” which has a nice Rogers solo. Also “Down Home” and Our Friend George” stand out as well as the instrumental title track.
There are some misses but it’s not bad.
