WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – The owner of the Hiawatha says the restaurant and lounge is closing.
A Facebook post says they will be closed Thursday, and will close for good after Friday’s fish fry.
Owner Adam Jamgochian posted: “Please join us for our famous fish fry one last time under the Jamgochian ownership and stay for half priced drinks after 10! A special thanks to all of our patrons and staff over the years that kept the Hiawatha chugging along for almost 50 years, each and everyone of you is greatly appreciated!”
He also said, “Stay tuned to see new and exciting happenings on Grant Street!” Future plans have not been announced.
Roger Jamgochian ran The Hiawatha for more than 40 years. His children ran the restaurant after his death in 2013. It hosted one of Wisconsin’s best known fish fries.
A reason for the closing has not been given. Many local restaurants have seen severe staffing shortages since the COVID downturn.
