MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A Grand Jury in Madison has indicted a 44-year-old Tomah man for charges of making false statements about his status as a Military Veteran.
Jonathan Walker is said to have falsified documents associated with his business, Walker Investment Properties LLC, claiming it was a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB). He allegedly used that claim to win more than $1.92 million in contracts for HVAC service and fire alarm installation at Fort McCoy.
Government agencies can limit competition for bids if a company is indeed an SDVOSB. However, the indictment alleges that Walker never served in the military, navy, air, or space services; nor did he suffer a disability as the result of service.
Records show Walker Investment Properties has received payments of just over $482,000 as the result of those contracts.
The indictment covers twelve counts including ten for wire fraud and two for making false statements. If found guilty on all counts he faces over 200 years in prison (20 years for each wire fraud charge, five for making false statements.)
