We continue our look back at the music of 5o years ago….
Before they polished up their act for pop radio & MTV in the 80s, the J.Geils Band was a down & dirty blues-rock band that delivered a high energy set whenever they played live.
In 1972 they released a live album from some performances in Detroit that catches the band at it’s smokin best.
The songs range from Motown to the blues of John Lee Hooker and Otis Rush. Even the original tune “Hard Drivin Man” kicks ass.
The band is led by Peter Wolf with Magic Dick delivering on the harmonica. Geils adds some incendiary guitar especially on the Hooker classic “Serves You Right To Suffer”. They even had a hit with “Lookin For A Love”.
This is one of the finest live LPs ever released. If you’ve never heard it, put it on, crack open a cold one and party on!
