KRONENWETTER, WI (WSAU) — Village leaders in Kronenwetter are extending the Friday closure of Village Hall for another few weeks as they continue to deal with staffing issues.
Interim Administrator Duane Gau says while the practice isn’t ideal they have found that the move has improved efficiency among staffers. “They need that time sometimes just for us to communicate because we do get a lot of phone calls, emails, and other interruptions during the day,” said Gau.
“Having three full-time people and one part-time person not on board yet, we’re working with consultants who [are only here] three days a week in certain areas, that’s the other reason,” he added.
Gau says he and others have made Friday appointments with residents if there is a pressing need.
The move was first announced back in July with a sunset date in early October. Gau says residents will still be able to cast their ballots on Fridays once absentee voting begins if they so choose. Additionally, he is planning to reopen the hall to the public in December to allow residents to pay their property taxes in person. “We don’t want to interrupt that process or leave folks without the ability to pay taxes. Of course that’s our revenue that we work with.”
Gau says the village will reevaluate the situation going into the new year to determine if they can re-open on Fridays.
