COLUMBUS, OH (WSAU) — Ohio State raced out to three early touchdowns and more than 100 yards of total offense in the first quarter and never looked back, embarrassing the Wisconsin Badgers 52-21 in front of a national TV audience.
Cade Stover caught a pair of touchdown passes in the first quarter which helped the Buckeyes build a 28-0 lead before Wisconsin would get on the board midway through the second quarter thanks to a one-yard touchdown run from Graham Mertz. A late field goal for OSU would send the game to halftime at 31-7.
Wisconsin wouldn’t score again until the 4th quarter when Mertz hit Jackson Acker with a two-yard touchdown pass. Braelon Allen then ripped off a 75-yard touchdown run to close out the scoring, one of the only explosive plays of the game for the Badgers.
Mertz finished with 94 passing yards and one touchdown and one pick. Allen finished with 165 rushing yards and one score. Skyler Bell led all receivers with 55 yards.
Ohio State scored on six of their first seven possessions in the game and didn’t record their first punt until the midway point of the 3rd quarter.
To add insult to injury, Wisconsin TE Clay Cundiff suffered what appears to be a broken leg early in the game. He also suffered a broken leg during the 2021 season.
Wisconsin returns home next Saturday to take on Illinois. Kickoff has been slotted for 11 AM from Camp Randall, pregame coverage will begin at 9 AM on WSAU.
