MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) — Marshfield Clinic Health System has announced that flu shots are now available from their clinics.
“It is especially important to receive your flu vaccine this year,” said Dr. Edward Belongia, a vaccine scientist with Marshfield Clinic Research Institute in a press release. “There was very little influenza during the past two years of the pandemic, and the level of population immunity has declined. This could lead to a more severe flu season this winter.”
The CDC recommends that you get a flu shot by the end of October for maximum protection from the peak months of the flu season, which run from December to March. Full immunity comes two weeks after the shot.
Children who need a two-shot series should get their first shot as soon as possible, as the second one needs to be given four weeks after the first.
Influenza, commonly referred to as “flu,” is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death.
