WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Those heading to a show at the Grand Theater this season will have a much easier time getting in the door and to their seats thanks to a new security system.
Director Sean Wright says it’s the same system used by many larger theaters and professional sports teams, which uses an AI interface to scan for weapons. “It’s a brand new state-of-the-art system that you see at many stadiums, amphitheaters, and arenas around the country. It’s not the old school put your keys, your phone, your coins [to the side]. Your belt buckle might set it off, this is really just searching for weapons and prohibited items.
“Whether you are going to a Packers game or a show at any venue in Milwaukee, Madison, the Twin Cities; this is no different than the screening you are going to have there,” added Wright.
Wright says the easiest way to prepare for it is to think of it like the setup you encounter at a Packers game- items like your cell phone, car keys, and spare change can stay in your pocket as you pass through the system. Items to leave at home include large bags, cameras with large flashes, recording devices, outside food or beverage, laser pointers or flashlights, and aerosol spray cans including pepper spray.
Exceptions will be made for those with medical needs or a disability. Patrons are always encouraged to visit the Grand’s website for the latest venue info.
The new season of shows at the Grand begins Monday, October 3rd with a sold-out show featuring Tom Segura. Six other shows are scheduled to play at the downtown venue during October as well.
