MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — With the chance to pull ahead in the push for the final wild card playoff spot, the Milwaukee Brewers let the game get away late losing 4-2 to the Miami Marlins on Thursday night at American Family Field.
The Brewers were tied with Philadelphia going into the game after the Cubs dealt the Phillies their fifth straight loss earlier in the day.
With Milwaukee leading 2-0 in the 8th inning, former Brewer Avisail Garcia hit a two-out two-strike pitch for a grand slam off Freddy Peralta. Peralta, pitching in a relief role for the first time this season, threw a scoreless 7th inning but ran into trouble in the 8th. He allowed a pair of singles and a two out walk to Brian Anderson before Garcia’s big blow.
Eric Lauer started and pitched five scoreless innings.
After scoring twice in the 2nd inning, the Brewers had a chance to add on by loading the bases in the 3rd and 6th but failing to score.
Milwaukee remains a half game back of the stumbling Phillies in the wild-card chase and will play Miami again tonight…pre game show at 6:35 on WSAU.
