MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Sports betting in Wisconsin is coming to another tribal casino.
Governor Tony Evers and leaders of the Sokaogon Chippewa Community announced an amended gaming pact on Friday that will allow for event wagering at the Mole Lake Casino near Crandon and other locations within the reservation.
“It is always a good day when we can use our government-to-government relationship to provide new opportunities for Tribal communities and our entire state, and I am appreciative of Chairman VanZile and the Sokaogon Tribal Council for their work with our Administration on this compact amendment,” said Gov. Evers in a press release. “This amendment will generate additional revenue for the Tribe and our state, bolster local tourism, and support jobs in Northern Wisconsin—and that’s a win-win for everyone.”
The Skoaogon Chippewa Community joins a handful of other tribes including Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, Oneida Nation, the St. Croix Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin, and the Forest County Potawatomi in allowing sports and event betting in their facilities.
The new agreement has been submitted to the US Department of Interior, which begins a 45-day review period for final approval. It’s expected that Mole Lake Casino’s sports book will be up and running in time for the College Football bowl season and NFL playoffs.
Wisconsin currently allows sports and event betting at tribal casinos that have amended their pacts to allow for such betting. Some casinos also offer mobile betting on smartphones and tablets as long as the device is located on casino property.
Allowing statewide mobile betting through platforms like FanDuel and Bet MGM would require action from the state legislature.
