MADISON, WI (WSAU) – Former Wisconsin football coach Brett Bielema returned to Camp Randall Stadium and led Illinois to its first win in Madison in 20 years.
Illinois dominated the second half and coasted to a 34-10 win.
Illinois quarterback Tommy DeVito threw for 3 touchdown passes. Chase Brown ran for 129 yards.
Badgers quarterback Grahm Mertz was sacked five times and threw two interceptions.
Bielema coached Wisconsin from 2006 to 2012, and amassed 68 wins. Since leaving Wisconsin he’s coached Arkansas and Illinois.
The Badgers have lost two lopsided games in a row, after being blown out by Ohio State 52-21 last Saturday. It’s Wisconsin’s worst home loss since being blown out by 41 points by Penn State in 2008.
Wisconsin is now 2-3 for the season and travels to Northwestern next week. Illinois improves to 4-1 and returns home to play Iowa next week.
