WASHINGTON DC (MetroSource-WSAU) — The congressional committee investigating last year’s Capitol attack is officially issuing a subpoena to former President Trump.
In a letter to him, the panel wants relevant documents by November 4th. They also want Trump to participate “in one or more days of deposition testimony, beginning on or about November 14th.”
The panel says Trump was “at the center of the first and only effort by any U.S. President to overturn an election and obstruct the peaceful transfer of power.” It accuses Trump of doing many things including putting then-Vice President Mike Pence in danger by posting a message on social media about him while the riot was happening.
Trump can refuse to comply with a subpoena or invoke his Fifth Amendment right to refuse to answer questions by committee members if he chooses.
Congress can hold Trump in contempt if he refuses to comply.
