WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The company that owns the rights to a metal deposit in Marathon County is working to provide more environmental impact information to the Wisconsin DNR regarding their request to conduct exploratory mining.
The DNR made the request on Friday, and GreenLight Wisconsin’s Dan Colton says they are working to provide that information to them, adding that they don’t see the request as a hangup in their plans to explore the site further.
“We’re currently in the process of reviewing the materials sent to us Friday by the Department, however, I remain confident that we will be able to demonstrate our work can be done in a safe and responsible manner,” said Colton in an email to WSAU News.
A spokesperson for GreenLight Wisconsin added that the DNR is asking for clarification about how the company plans to conduct the exploratory work at the site, something they say is common when applying for permits like this.
No work at the site in the Town of Easton is imminent, and GreenLight adds that no work will be done until the DNR has signed off on their plan.

GreenLight announced in April that they have filed a permit to mine the site with the county.
