WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Salvation Army in Wausau will hold two different events over the next five days to officially kick off their biggest fundraising campaign of the year.
Three local businesses will donate a combined $35,000 to the annual Red Kettle Campaign beginning Friday. Mike Collins with the Salvation Army says that will get them off to a good start as they look to raise over $150,000 in the 46-day bell-ringing season.
The money comes in the form of two $15,000 donations from Aqua Finance and Connexus Credit Union, and a $5,000 donation from UMR. The latter of which will be presented as part of an event at Piggly Wiggly in Mosinee on Friday.
Aqua and Connexus will present their checks Wednesday, November 9th.
Collins says Crystal Finishing also donated new bright red kettles to the campaign which will be used at all locations this year.
As always Collins says the key to a successful campaign is getting as many people to ring bells at their red kettles as possible. “It’s easy to pass a kettle when there’s no one there and not put in any money. So our big thing this year is to find volunteers, we’re going to do a big corporate push on that. We’re going to go to Churches, sporting clubs, corporate [groups,] we need people ringing the bells.”
Volunteers can contact the local Salvation Army to sign up for a bell-ringing shift, or you can sign up at registertoring.org to find an available time and location.
