STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — The man suspected of stealing a car from the Target parking lot in Stevens Point has pled guilty to one count of operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent.
William Gentry was in a Portage County courtroom Tuesday morning where a plea deal was announced with the state. In exchange for the guilty plea, a count of armed robbery by use of force is going to be dismissed but read into the record.
Gentry approached a woman last April and demanded the keys to her vehicle, saying he would stab her if she didn’t. He then took the vehicle and drove off.
Officers named Genry as a suspect a few days later, and he was arrested after officials found the vehicle in Missouri.
The victim was not injured in the incident.
A presentence investigation will be conducted and completed by the end of January. The 52-year-old will be sentenced on February 7th at 3 PM.
