MOLE LAKE, WI (WSAU-WXPR) – Tony Evers says his top priorities as Wisconsin’s recently re-elected governor include passing a budget and building bipartisan relationships.
“I’m hoping to establish relationships to allow bipartisanship to happen in the state. I think it can, making sure we have adequate childcare and education for every child that needs it. Those are things that northern, southern, middle of Wisconsin are issues. Looking forward to getting that done.”
Evers visited a daycare in Mole Lake Wednesday to tout his administration’s investments in childcare and early education.
He’s allocated more than $350 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds to childcare through the Child Care Counts program.
That program was meant to provide financial stability to childcare centers through the pandemic, as many dealt with staffing shortages.
Going forward, Evers said staffing will continue to be a critical issue. “The state has to come up with the cash and we do have money. It’s an issue of finding people to do the work. That’s a long-term thing in the state of Wisconsin.”
Evers defeated Republican gubernatorial candidate Tim Michels by more than 3 percentage points in the midterm election. He says he’s pleased – but not surprised – to be reelected governor of Wisconsin.
