STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — The Portage County Sheriff’s Office is now recommending charges against the driver of a vehicle that crashed near Amherst Junction, killing one person.
WAOW TV reports Axel Crus-Zelaya may face charges for driving without a valid license, causing the death of a passenger in the incident which occurred Friday morning. The vehicle was traveling west on US Highway 10 when it entered the north ditch and rolled, ending upright on its tires.
Officers add that speed and slick road conditions appear to have been factors.
The crash killed 58-year-old Miguel Angel Hernandez-Valdivia of Appleton. Three other passengers were not hurt in the incident.
The 30-year-old Crus-Zelaya was cited for driving too fast for the road conditions as a result of the accident. Potential court action against him for the charges of driving without a valid license, causing the death of a passenger is pending.
