NASSAU, BAHAMAS (WSAU) — The Wisconsin Badgers are into the Championship bracket at the Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas.
Connor Essegian scored 13 points to lead the charge in a gritty 43-42 win over the Dayton Flyers on Wednesday. Steven Crowel added nine points and seven rebounds in the win.
Both teams struggled from the field as Wisconsin made just six field goals in the second half and finished the game 14-59 (24%). Dayton finished at 42% but was hurt by poor three-point shooting (4/27).
The Flyers did have an opportunity for a late shot with around two seconds to go in the game and one second on the shot clock. However, the catch-and-shoot didn’t get off in time and Wisconsin took over on a shot clock violation.
Wisconsin advances to take on Kansas in the tournament semifinals on Thanksgiving morning. Tip time is slated for 11 AM, and pregame coverage will begin at 10 on WSAU.
The Jayhawks took down North Carolina State in the first game of the event.
Should Wisconsin defeat Kansas they will play for the tournament championship on Friday. If they fall to the Jayhawks, they’ll play in the third-place game.
Action will get underway tonight in the bottom portion of the bracket. Tonight’s games feature the University of Southern California against BYU and Butler taking on Tennessee. The winners will play in the second semifinal on Thursday, while the losers will still get two games in the consolation round.
