RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU-WXPR) – Hodag Park’s holiday lights festival kicks off Friday in Rhinelander.
Volunteers have been working for weeks to decorate the park in thousands of Christmas lights.
Don Hoppe is President of Lights of the Northwoods. He says this year’s event will be brighter than ever, thanks to the work of those dedicated volunteers. “The community comes forward. There’s a lot of pride. Bigger and better, every year we do more with not less, but different people that come out.”
Lights of the Northwoods is free to visitors. But donations are accepted. They support the event and local food pantries.
Volunteer Jeff Kataoka says the best part of the event is seeing the joy it brings to community members. “I always like to see the response from the public when they see this for the first time. We change it every year because we always try to improve it.”
The lights at Hodag Park are far from the only holiday event taking place in the Northwoods this season. The park will be lit each night through January 1st from 5 to 9 p.m.
