MADISON, WI (WSAU) — As new head football coach Luke Fickell met with players and the press, the University of Wisconsin was posting for open assistant coaching postitions within the program.
Both coordinator positions were posted as well as strength and conditioning coach and two assistant postitions. The openings have to be posted through December 5th.
Fickell said he has spoken to Jim Leonhard about staying with the program despite not getting the full time job. Fickell had done that when he was interim coach at Ohio State. He returned to a coordinator position when Urban Meyer got the full time job.
Fickell also said he will be around the program as they prepare for their bowl game although no details were given about who would be coaching the team in the bowl game.
Fickell and whoever gets the assistant positions will have a big job in the off-season to not only convince current players not to transfer to another school but to also build up a small recruiting class for 2023 which only has nine players in it at this point.
Fickell met with around two dozen players on Monday.
