Leanna M. Wells
WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Charges of first-degree reckless homicide by delivering drugs have been dismissed as part of a plea deal for a Wausau woman.
Leanna M Wells entered a no contest plea for two counts of manufacturing and delivering heroin and possession with intent to distribute on Monday. In exchange, several other counts were dismissed but read into the record including the homicide charge.
Judge Gregory Huber then sentenced Wells to three years in state prison and three years of extended supervision. The sentence also includes requirements for maintaining full-time work or schooling while on probation and completing all counseling as deemed appropriate by her agent.
She was given credit for nine months already served in jail.
The 41-year-old was found to have sold heroin to a 48-year-old man who was found dead in a Wausau apartment. Investigators determined that he had a variety of drugs in his system at the time of his death including methamphetamine and fentanyl along with various other street drugs. Phone records showed Wells admitted to selling drugs to the man numerous times, and police had also arrested him for buying from an undercover informant in the weeks leading up to his death.
Other counts that were dismissed but could be considered for sentencing included resisting or obstructing an officer, bail jumping, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Charges stemmed from three different cases, which were rolled into one.
