UPDATED: Cody Huebner has been taken into custody in Lincoln County.
Sheriff’s officials made the announcement in a Facebook post approximately 90 minutes after they announced that he was on the loose near Landing Bay Resort.
Officers add that they are still in the area collecting evidence and processing the scene, so if anyone hears footsteps in the woods or near their home, they should not be alarmed.
WSAU’s original reporting on the story is below. Again, Huebner is in custody and there is no longer a danger to the public in the area.:
TOWN OF CASSIAN, WI (WSAU) — The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to avoid the area of South Shore Road near Landing Bay Resort while officers search for a man that they consider to be armed and dangerous.
Officers say the situation began in Minocqua as they tried to make contact with a man identified as 32-year-old Cody J. Huebner. He got into a vehicle, and a pursuit began.
At some point during the chase, he got out of the first vehicle and stole a different vehicle. The chase continued into an area near Bearskin Lake when he got out of the vehicle and ran into a wooded area.
Officers say he was armed with a gun and should be considered dangerous. All residents in the area of Bearskin Lake are being asked to lock their doors and to report any suspicious activity by calling 911.
There is a heavy law enforcement presence near the Landing Bay Resort along the south shore of Bearskin Lake. Residents are being asked to stay away from that area if possible.
