STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Stevens Point residents are being reminded to clear their sidewalks as another round of winter weather hit the region.
Snow and ice must be cleared following each snowstorm to keep sidewalks safe, which is the responsibility of each property owner. The city also provides sand to residents who need it to cover stubborn ice that can’t be removed.
Streets crews have provided four self-serve distribution points for the salt-sand mixture. Those are located at:
- Atwell Park, on the corner of Jordan and Soo Marie
- Morton Park, on the corner of Michigan and Bush
- The corner of Phillips and College
- The corner of Fifth Ave. & Second St.
Residents can also pick up free sand at the City Garage located on Sixth Avenue, though residents are asked to bring their own buckets or pails and are limited to two five-gallon buckets per trip.
City leaders are also reminding residents who have a fire hydrant near their property to clear it each time it snows as well.
