The Wausau City Council will hear a presentation on efforts to support the city’s homeless population at the beginning of Tuesday’s regular meeting, and will also consider a proposal for a committee of the whole meeting for further discussion on the issue.
According to the proposal, the agenda for that meeting would include a discussion on what the city and county have already done to help those in need of housing. There would also be a discussion about creating a department of social services and action within the city as well.
The proposed meeting is being pitched by two members of the city council, though the proposal does not specify who is bringing it forward. Should the request pass, then the meeting would be scheduled for a future date.
Tuesday’s agenda does not include information on who will be presenting to the council at the start of the meeting. The presentation is one of three on the docket for the meeting.
The struggles of the city’s homeless population have been a topic of conversation during public input at several City Council meetings over the last few months, with groups of people who work with the homeless population calling on the city to do more to help those in need.
Tuesday’s meeting begins at 6:30 at City Hall.
