GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) — WPS and WE Energies have announced that a crew of about 50 workers has been sent to California to help rebuild their infrastructure as the region continues to deal with flooding.
The crews left Wisconsin on Saturday and arrived in the Central Valley earlier this week. The group is led by Area Manager Amy Plato, who says they are ready to get to work. “Here at We Energies and WPS, we’re a pretty tightknit family, and we want to help. Being a part of a restoration effort like this is really amazing. These guys are so proud to be able to come to California and help the customers here,” Plato said.
The crews will be relieving workers from Pacific Gas and Energy who have been working to build up or restore the power grid as the region deals with devastating rains that have caused flooding in many areas. Nearly 20 deaths have been blamed on the storms as well.
“The PG&E employees, they’re exhausted. We’re here to at least help them get some rest so we can take over, help them out. We have a good group here — we’re going to get some work done,” Plato added.
The Wisconsin crews were sent alongside others from across the nation. WPS and WE Energies do have a history of providing help to other power systems, most recently in 2018 when a group went to Puerto Rico to help rebuild their infrastructure following Hurricane Maria.
