WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A former Wausau man accused of killing his infant son in 2021 took the stand in his own defense on Wednesday.
Court records show Ronnie Lofton was on the stand from just after 1:00 PM to around 3:30, after which the defense rested their case.
The 41-year-old faces one count of first-degree intentional homicide after officers said his three-month-old son died while in his care. According to the child’s mother, she found him unresponsive after she returned from a shopping trip.
The child was rushed to a local hospital and then sent on to Marshfield Children’s due to the nature of his injuries. He died a few days later.
Lofton, who recently moved to Indiana, is facing a mandatory life sentence for the charges.
The trial began on Wednesday, January 18th, and is scheduled to run through the 31st.
