TOWN OF NOKOMIS, WI (WSAU) — For the second time in less than a week someone has died while snowmobiling in Oneida County.
According to the Sheriff’s office, a 41-year-old man was driving his sled at a high speed when he passed another rider along Trail 51. Witnesses say the rider then failed to negotiate a curve, and was thrown from the snowmobile and hit a fence post.
The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene.
No further information on the crash was released.
The first occurred earlier in the week when a group of snowmobiles was crossing Highway 47 from east to west. The last snowmobile in the group, driven by Michael J. Green of Oak Lawn, Illinois, was struck by a southbound vehicle.
DNR officials note that there have been six fatal crashes on the Wisconsin snowmobile trails in the past few weeks including the two in Oneida County.
