SOUTH BEND, IN and MENDOTA HEIGHTS, MN (WSAU) — The Badger men’s hockey team was unable to dig out from an early 2-0 hole in a 5-3 loss to the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame on Friday in South Bend.
Mathieu De St. Phalle, Daniel Laatsch, and Jack Horbach all provided goals for the Badgers. Jared Moe got the start in net and made 30 saves before being pulled for an extra skater.
The same two teams will wrap up the two-game set this evening in South Bend. No coverage on WSAU due to the Badger men’s basketball game, but you can stream the game live on Peacock through Notre Dame’s agreement with NBC sports.
Meanwhile, the women worked over St. Thomas for a 6-1 WCHA win in Mendota Heights, MN. Casey O’Brien scored twice while Maddi Wheeler and Jesse Compher each added goals as well.
The Tommies got out to a 1-0 lead before Wisconsin ripped off six unanswered for the win.
The same two teams will play again this afternoon in the Twin Cities.
St Thomas utilizes an off-campus facility for their home games, though that will change in the next five years. The university recently announced that they have received a $75 million gift to kick-start a new on-campus arena which will play host to both its basketball and hockey programs for both genders. The arena is expected to open by 2028.
