WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez was in Wausau on Wednesday to tour the Community Partners Campus building, which held its grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony.
She says facilities like this are good for the community in more ways than one. “If we can get people the services they need, the food that they need, the medical care that they need; they might be able to work more hours at their job and put better food on the table for their families. That’s better for all of us.
The new facility on Grand Avenue in Wausau brings together nine different non-profits and community service organizations under one roof. Those groups specialize in food, shelter, medical, mental health, and social well-being.
A facility like this has been talked about for more than two decades and seriously in the works for about four years. Organizers did receive about $1.5 million in grant funding from the Governor’s neighborhood investment fund. Rodriguez says she feels that is money well spent.
“What [our administration] wants to do is to support these types of innovative ideas that are coming from the cities, coming from the communities themselves. They know best how to serve the folks in their community, and this is a way to do that.”
Others who were on hand for the event included Wausau and Marathon County leaders such as Mayor Katie Rosenberg, Alder Doug Diny, and Supervisor Sarah Guild. Representatives from the Greater Wausau Chamber were also on hand to facilitate the ribbon cutting.
