WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — The Never Forgotten Honor Flight in Central Wisconsin will have new leadership.
WAOW TV reports that Mike Thompson, the first and only President in the group’s 11-year history, is stepping down from the position.
Thompson says he would like to spend more time with his family and do some traveling. He also plans to remain “somewhat active” in the organization.
“It’s important to have new blood in the leading position,” Thompson told WAOW TV.
Thompson is an Air Force Veteran who teamed up with Marine Veteran Jim Campbell to start the Never Forgotten Honor Flight in November 2009. Since then the organization has taken nearly 4,000 Veterans to Washington, DC to see the war memorials created in their honor.
The group has approved Ken Moberg as their next President. Moberg has been serving on the group’s Board of Directors and has the endorsement of Thompson.
“Ken will be a strong leader, and I’ll be a strong supporter,” Thompson said.
