STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) – William Gentry, who admitted to using a knife to steal a woman’s car from a Target parking lot last April was sentenced on Tuesday.
After pleading guilty to driving without the owner’s consent while carrying a lethal weapon, Gentry will spend five years in prison and another five years on probation.
Michael Zell, the circuit judge for Portage County, did consider the charge of armed robbery by use of force, but dismissed it as part of Gentry’s plea bargain.
Judge Zell gave Gentry credit for the nine months he has already served and also detailed the conditions of his probation. According to Judge Zell’s requirements, Gentry must follow strict sobriety rules, maintain a full-time job, and have no contact with the victim.
