WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The last of Marathon County’s open snowmobile trails will close effective at midnight as Tuesday turns into Wednesday.
That’s when the county’s department of parks, recreation, and forestry will close Zone 2 trails, which had been the last ones open as of Monday.
Trails have been steadily closing since last week when temperatures warmed above freezing during the day. That includes closures in Zones 1, 4, and 6 over the weekend.
Snowmobilers are reminded that riding on closed trails constitutes trespassing, and is punishable with a citation or loss of trail privileges.
Closures will last until further notice. Should favorable conditions return, trails will be reopened. Riders are encouraged to visit the county parks website for up-to-date trail maps and information.
