PHOENIX, AZ (WSAU) – Corbin Burnes lost his salary arbitration hearing yesterday. The two-time All-Star pitcher will earn just over 10-million-dollars this season, which is about one-million less than he was asking for.
“There’s no denying that the relationship is definitely hurt from what transpired” Burnes told MLB.com. Burnes went on to say the Brewers made him a “pretty poor” two-year offer a day or two before the hearing, and that was the only mention of any sort of multi-year deal so far.
“The arbitration process always presents uncomfortable situations for both the club and player involved. It is never easy to present a case against a member of the Brewers family,” and “I’d like to reiterate that we view Corbin as one of the leaders of our franchise and value him as an elite talent in the game,” GM Matt Arnold said in a press release.
Milwaukee begins its offseason workouts in Phoenix, Arizona, and will play the Los Angeles Dodgers in their first spring training game on February 25th.
