DAYTONA BEACH, Fla (MetroSource-WSAU) –Ricky Stenhouse Jr. ended a lengthy winless streak and took home the checkered flag at the longest Daytona 500 in NASCAR history.
The Number-47 car raced an extra 12 laps due to several cautions down the stretch which forced double-overtime. Stenhouse won his first race since 2017.
Joey Logano, Christopher Bell, Chris Buescher and Alex Bowman rounded out the top five. Bowman began the race in the pole position while last year’s winner, Austin Cindric, finished 22nd.
Stenhouse will need to break a recent trend if he wants to be crowned Cup Series champion. The last driver to win the title following a Daytona victory was Jimmie Johnson back in 2013. The racers will gear up for the Auto Club 400 at San Bernardino next Sunday.
