Paul Kreft
WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A man who caused thousands of dollars worth of damage to some east-side Wausau businesses was handed a withheld sentence on Tuesday.
Paul Kreft entered a no contest plea to three counts of criminal damage to property and a count of bail jumping, in exchange several other counts were dismissed but read into the record. Judge Rick Cveykus then sentenced the 48-year-old to two years of probation.
Terms of his probation include no contact with several impacted businesses, the complement of all treatment and counseling, and maintaining absolute sobriety. Should those terms be met over two years, he will not be forced to return to court for further sentencing.
Charges against Kreft stemmed from multiple cases involving vandalism or disorderly conduct against businesses including Angelo’s Pizza, Subway on Forest St, Kelly Club, Wausau Boys & Girls Club, Pearl Luvs Earl, & Thrive Foodery. Many of those businesses reported broken windows and other forms of vandalism.
The Kelly Club incident involved a confrontation between police and an intoxicated Kreft, who was being disorderly and refusing to leave the venue. Eventually, he left without paying his tab, and when officers tried to detain him he refused to comply. He was eventually detained on charges of disorderly conduct.
Court records also note that Kreft has paid restitution in full.
