WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — The City of Wausau set a snowfall record for February 22nd.
WAOW Meteorologist Justin Loew reports that the official snowfall total for the day was 7.3 inches, smashing the former record of 4.8 inches which was set in 1971.
Wednesday marked day two of a multi-day weather event that began on Tuesday and ran through Thursday. As of 8 AM some light snow was still falling in the Wausau area.
Other recorded snowfall totals from Tuesday through Thursday morning include:
- Plover: 9.4″
- Wausau: 9.5″
- Rhinelander: 6.1″
- Lac Du Flambeau: 7.0″
- Scandinavia: 11.3″
- Arkdale: 12.0″
- Mosinee: 8.9″
- Dorchester: 10.0″
- Marshfield: 8.0″
The multi-day event caused many local school districts to declare E-learning days for Wednesday and Thursday. Many communities also declared snow emergencies, many of which will continue through Friday afternoon.
