
Wisconsin Badgers
MADISON, WI and HAPPY VALLEY, PA (WSAU) — The Badger women’s hockey team grabbed a 1-0 series lead on Minnesota State, Mankato in the first round of the WCHA playoffs with a shutout win over the Mavs yesterday.
Kirsten Simms, Caroline Harvey, and Sarah Wozniewicz each scored for the Badgers in the win. Cami Kronish made 21 saves to keep MSU off the board.
The Badgers outshot the Mavericks 42-21. Wisconsin can clinch the series with a win this afternoon. If a game three is needed, that’ll be played on Sunday afternoon.
Other first-round results from Friday at Minnesota topping St Thomas (MN), Ohio State defeating Bemidji State (MN) and Minnesota-Duluth defeating St Cloud State (MN). All high seeds now lead their series 1-0.
The Badger men’s team fell into an early hole against #10 Penn State and never recovered in a 6-1 loss to the Nittany Lions. Brock Caufield provided the lone goal of the game for the Badgers, and Jared Moe made 34 saves in net.
The same two teams will go at it again this afternoon, with pregame coverage beginning on WSAU at 3:30 and face-off at 4 PM. That’ll be the regular-season finale for both clubs.
Wisconsin has long clinched the #7 seed in the upcoming Big Ten Conference tournament and will have a first-round best-of-three series on the road against the #2 seed.
