RIB MOUNTAIN, WI (WSAU) — The Town of Rib Mountain continues on the path to incorporation as a Village.
After a public hearing with the State Department of Administration last month, Administrator Gaylene Rhoden says her team has submitted additional documents to support their case. Most of that had to do with non-developed land in the town and the potential for future development. The village currently doesn’t meet those targets as required, so those documents were required to get them an exception.
“It’s the area that we would consider to be the less-developed areas. Outside our developed area is public lands. A huge state park, and a huge county forest, [some] wetlands and steep slopes” said Rhoden. “That makes it very challenging to have huge amounts of growth outside your main territory.”
Rhoden says it’s not uncommon for the DOA to come back with those questions as they do their “due diligence” on the issue. “It’s something that [has to] be done by several municipalities when they go through the incorporation [process.]”
Representatives from the Town will have another meeting with the Incorporation Board in the next few weeks, though she says it’s unclear what questions they may come back with at that time. A final decision is due by May 5th. Should the DOA rule in the Town’s favor, the matter will go to the circuit courts which would then set a date for a public referendum on the question. If approved, the change would take place later this year.
