WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – Congressman Tom Tiffany is responding to the White House’s announcement today that TikTok will be banned from all federal devices within 30 days.
“We’ve been calling for this for a long time, and President Trump had it in place when he was in office. What was one of President Biden’s first acts as president? He went ahead and lifted it,” Tiffany stated during an interview with WSAU.
Tiffany also stated that China’s long-term plan for the social media app should worry every American, as it is becoming increasingly clear that the Chinese Communist Party is gathering this data with the expectation of using it for the wrong reasons one day.
Due to security concerns, the Chinese-owned social media app is receiving more attention in Washington and has already been banned by a number of states and federal agencies, including the Department of Defense, Homeland Security, and the State Department.
The “No TikTok on Government Devices Act” was passed by Congress in December. However, the law does allow the use of TikTok in some circumstances, including those that involve national security, law enforcement, and research.
House Republicans are expected to move forward with legislation that would give Biden the authority to ban TikTok across the country.
