WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office says they’ve received several reports of a group posing as door-to-door peddlers trying to sell a specific health insurance policy.
In a Facebook post, the office says they’ve received reports of someone knocking on doors and offering to sell “Heart attack or Stroke Insurance,” while also asking if residents are home alone all day.
There have been no reports of any of the individuals causing trouble, but Officers say they also haven’t issued any peddlers’ permits that would allow for the door-to-door sale of such items.
Residents from Mosinee and Stratford say they’ve received the visits. Officers say if you encounter them, your best bet is to politely decline what they are selling and close your door immediately. If they refuse to leave your property, call the Dispatch Center at 715-261-7793. If it’s an emergency, call 911.
As always residents are asked to protect their personal information from scammers and never give out things like social security numbers, credit card numbers, or banking information to someone making an unsolicited request such as this. If you believe that you are the victim of a scam, contact law enforcement immediately.
